Florence is a late-Victorian design with a heavy weft effect that gives the cloth real depth. It was drawn by William Perkins, who took his inspiration from an altarpiece by the fifteenth-century Florentine painter Jacopo di Cione and from the Italian lacework of the period.

For church sewing, that history matters in a practical way: the pattern carries visual interest and a reverent presence, but it never shouts. Woven in 60% cotton and 40% viscose, it has the weight to hang well and the restraint to sit beneath an orphrey, an applied cross, or embroidery without competing with them.
