French Micro Twill Fabric | Cotton Chasuble Underlining

Regular price $ 35.99
Unit price
per

A little more body for a chasuble that needs a softer supporting layer.

Sometimes a beautiful face fabric needs a little help to hang the way you want. French Micro Twill adds soft cotton body beneath the surface of a chasuble, without the firm finish of canvas. It is worth considering when your cloth needs more support or a little more coverage between the face fabric and a colored lining.

Projects and possibilities

Use it as an underlining for a chasuble, or sample it for other garments whose patterns call for a soft cotton support. Try the layers together: you are looking for the right balance of body, drape and coverage for the piece you have in mind.

Fabric details

  • Fiber: Cotton
  • Width: 60 inches (approximately 152 cm)
  • Construction: Fine twill
  • Colors: White and Pale Green
  • Purchase options: Single White remnant, 48 inches long (1⅓ yards); Pale Green by the yard

Planning your project

There are two different cuts on this listing. White is one remnant, measuring 48 inches long (1⅓ yards). Pale Green is sold by the yard. Lay out your pattern before choosing the White remnant so you can be sure its length is enough. There is no swatch option on this listing.

Ordering this fabric

For Pale Green, choose the yardage option; a quantity of 1 is 1 yard. For White, a quantity of 1 orders the entire 48-inch remnant (1⅓ yards). Please check the color and cut together before adding the fabric to your cart.

Before you cut and sew

Test for shrinkage and prepare the cotton before cutting. Underlining adds another layer to the garment, so think about where it will be worn and how warm the completed chasuble will feel.

Questions about this fabric

What does underlining do?

Underlining is joined to the face fabric to give it more body, support or coverage. A separate lining finishes the inside of the garment. Each layer has its own job, and your pattern may call for both.

Should I use micro twill or silk organza?

Micro twill adds soft cotton body and another layer of coverage. Silk organza is sheer and offers a lighter supporting layer. Think about what your face fabric needs, then compare the feel and drape of the layers you have available.
