Black Crown Gimp Braid, 5/8"
The plainest trim we carry, and the one that asks the least attention.
A woven black centre with a row of open loops running down each edge — the shape that gives crown gimp its name. There is no metallic in it and no colour. What it offers instead is a finished edge: it covers a seam, gives a hem somewhere to stop, and reads as deliberate rather than unadorned.
Black vestments are worn on the days when restraint is the point. A Requiem, Good Friday, a funeral. This trim is made for exactly those days, when a gold galloon would be wrong and a raw edge would be worse.
Suggested Uses
- Funeral palls and casket palls
- Black chasubles, stoles and copes for Requiem Masses
- Good Friday and All Souls' paraments
- Covering seams and finishing edges on any dark vestment
Working With It
Gimp is forgiving. The looped edges let it ease around a curve far better than a flat woven braid, so it will follow the shoulder line of a chasuble or the corner of a pall without puckering. Stitch through the centre channel and the loops stay proud.
It is also useful well beyond black sets — on any vestment where you want the edge defined but not decorated.
Sold by the yard. Swatch samples are approximately 2" x 3" and are for colour checking only.
