Gilt Rococo Goldwork Embroidery Thread

Add rich texture and traditional metallic detail to hand embroidery with Gilt Rococo Goldwork Thread, a specialty gold embroidery thread used for goldwork, ecclesiastical embroidery, ceremonial textiles, monograms, borders, and decorative couching.

Rococo is made from a fine metal wire tightly wrapped around a cotton core, creating its distinctive wavy or kinked serpentine appearance. The waves are formed evenly along the thread, making Rococo especially attractive for decorative lines and easy to position when couching.

Its dimensional surface catches the light differently from smooth passing threads, creating added texture, movement, and brilliance in traditional goldwork embroidery.

Because gilt goldwork threads incorporate precious-metal materials, pricing reflects current precious metal market conditions and may change as the market price of gold fluctuates.

Available Sizes

  • Gilt Very Fine Rococo
  • Gilt Fine Rococo
  • Gilt Medium Rococo
  • Sold in 1-yard lengths

How to Use Rococo Goldwork Thread

Rococo is typically worked as a surface embroidery thread and secured to the ground fabric with fine couching stitches rather than pulled repeatedly through the fabric.

It is commonly couched using individual strands and may also be arranged in pairs or decorative combinations depending on the design.

For hand couching, we recommend Au Ver à Soie – Soie 100/3 Silk Thread. Colors 240 or 241 coordinate nicely with gilt goldwork threads. A contrasting silk thread may also be used when you want the couching stitches to become part of the decorative design.

Ideal For

  • Traditional goldwork embroidery
  • Ecclesiastical embroidery
  • Church vestments and paraments
  • Altar hangings and banners
  • Monograms and lettering
  • Decorative borders and outlines
  • Heraldic and ceremonial embroidery
  • Surface couching
  • Historical and heirloom embroidery

Traditional Texture for Fine Goldwork

The characteristic serpentine surface of Rococo gives embroidered designs a distinctive texture that contrasts beautifully with smoother metallic threads. It can be used alone or combined with other goldwork materials to create variation in dimension, reflection, and visual interest.

Rococo is especially effective in designs where you want a clearly defined, textured metallic line while maintaining the traditional appearance associated with fine goldwork embroidery.
