A supporting layer does not always need to be a heavy one. Ivory Silk Organza brings a crisp hand and very little bulk, adding light support while keeping the overall weight delicate. Its sheer plain weave has a different character from a soft, flowing sheer, which is part of what makes it useful beneath a face fabric.
Projects and possibilities
We use silk organza as an underlining for silk dupioni chasubles and other vestments that benefit from a little additional shape. Consider it for bridal underlining, sheer garment details and decorative textile work as well. The same lightness that serves a chasuble can be useful in a special garment for another occasion.

Planning your project
Try the organza with your face fabric before cutting. Underlining changes how a cloth feels and falls, and a small sample will help you decide whether you like the result. Please allow 1–3 weeks for orders, as availability can vary.
Yardage and swatches
For your sewing project, choose By The Yard. A quantity of 1 is 1 yard.
A swatch lets you see the color and feel the cloth before choosing your yardage. Select Swatch Sample. Each sample is approximately 4 × 6 inches; a quantity of 1 orders one sample, and a higher quantity orders additional samples. Add yardage separately when you are ready for the project.
Swatch order terms: Please choose your cut carefully. Once processed, swatches are final sale and cannot be cancelled, refunded or exchanged, including when a swatch was selected instead of yardage.
Before you cut and sew
Test stitching and pressing on an offcut, and choose a cleaning method suited to the silk and the completed garment. If you are unsure about the care of a particular combination, contact us before beginning.
Questions about this fabric
Is organza a lining or an underlining?
It is commonly used as an underlining, joined to the face fabric to add support. You may still need a separate lining to finish the inside. Think of the organza as helping the outer cloth do its work.
Is silk organza opaque?
Silk organza is sheer. It offers light support, but it will not provide an opaque backing. If you need more coverage beneath your face fabric, compare the cotton micro twill.
