When Communion is taken to someone at home, in a hospital or in a care home, the vessels still need their linens. This free kit has the printable pattern for a pall, corporal and purificator cut small enough to pack flat, and Carrie's video sewing all three.

What you will make

Three linens, sized to travel

The same three linens used at the altar, made small enough to pack flat with the vessels for a sick call or a home visit.

  1. Pall

    5 in square

    The stiffened square laid over the chalice to cover it. Two pieces of linen worked over a board.

  2. Corporal

    6 in square

    The linen spread out first, on which the vessels stand. It catches anything that falls, which is why it is unfolded before anything else.

  3. Purificator

    8 in square

    The cloth for cleansing the chalice. The most used and most washed of the three, so it is worth making several while you have the linen out.

What you will need

  • Linen: a quarter yard for each piece. All three come out of one yard with room to spare.
  • Thread: all purpose thread for seams, 100 weight fine thread for basting.
  • Tools: a plexiglass board for the pall. A hera marker and quilting ruler help with crisp creases.
