Gilt Wire Check Purls

Gilt Wire Check Purl

Wire Check Purls are made up of a very fine wire thread that is wound around a soft flexible hollow tube with a serrated or jagged dull (matte) surface.

The Wire Check Purl is cut up into chips or tiny beads and couched down onto the fabric – passing the needle and thread through the middle of the chip so the thread is hidden. The chips or beads can be sewn over felt or crochet cotton padding to give the area dimension.

Sizes:

  • #10 Purl Approximately 0.6 mm across the width of the thread.
  • #5 Purl Approximately 1.8 mm across the width of the thread.
  • 1/2 yard pieces

Use a size 12 crewel needles or  size 12 short sharp beading needle with the size #10 wire check purl. The hole in the bead will be very small and a larger size 10 needle will not fit.

Dupioni silk

What I love about ecclesiastical sewing is the quality of their fabrics and the selection of liturgical fabrics that can be hard to find otherwise. I also Like the fact that if there is a question about anything I can email and communicate with a real person not a tangle of phone prompts and artificial voice systems. That’s so refreshing.
