February 2nd, 2018

A blessed feast day to y’all! At Ecclesiastical Sewing, we love every aspect of Church beautification: whether that is Church art or paraments…So let’s talk about what the 2nd of February is and some art that goes along with this blessed day!

Today the Church celebrates the Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Jesus. This event honors and fulfills the requirements from the Old Testament. The Law commanded that every mother should be cleansed from the experience of child birth. The life of every first born child belonged to the Lord and must be redeemed. For readings look at Luke 2:22-32.

This feast day is also called Candlemas by some. It is where the Candles have a tradition of being blessed. Also, some families wait until now to take down their Christmas ornaments.
In celebration and for your viewing pleasure, I would like you to look up a painting by Ambrogio Lorenzetti.

The website—Wonderful Things— is linked to the picture. Go there and browse through the different details of this beautiful masterpiece.
Would anyone like to go to Florence? I am sure I saw this the last time I was in the Uffizi, but I do not remember it standing out. Until I can travel back there, I will have to be satisfied with internet pictures. UNLESS… and here is a little secret I want to disclose to my readers.

I happen to enjoy purchasing art. I have used this website to buy a Northern Renaissance re-painting of a priceless painting before. I chose to do the oil re-painting and was very pleased! But for a more economic option, y’all can have them reprint on canvas. I think I will try that next time I order some art. Lorenzetti’s Purification/Presentation is here for purchase. Maybe this will be a Valentine gift to my Valentine….

But more important than looking at art, today we remember that Christ was the Offering to end all offerings, the One to fulfill the Law, and the Death of death.

Thank you for reading!
