King of Kings – Crown of Glory Liturgical Machine Embroidery Motif

As Easter approaches, we prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate one of the holiest seasons of the church year calendar.

A few years back, I was searching for a design to use on a white altar hanging set during the Christmas and Easter season. I was beginning to feel the search was in vain. I knew I wanted something special. I had talked through possible design ideas with my pastor, which is always a very good idea.  Still, I failed to find that perfect design. Then, late one night or rather, in the wee morning hours when the eyes were weary and longing for sleep, the page of a vintage book turned to reveal the King of Kings. My eyes were fixed on the page, not daring to blink lest the design should vanish. The image was old and faded, the lines were blurred, almost to the point that only a miraculous effort would bring the faded and blurred edges of the design back to life as a usable design.  Yet despite all of the obstacles, a faint hope glimmered, just as one goes through the seasons of Advent and Lent, with the promise of Christmas and Easter at the conclusion of the penitential seasons.

The countless hours of restoration for the Crown of Glory design took place during the season of Lent. And in the end, The King of Kings design shines forth with the joy at the dawning of Christmas and Easter morn.
