Agnus Dei Progress

It is fun to set stitching goals. It is even more fun to reach the goal!  This weekend was a great weekend to set and make goals for Ecclesiastical Embroidery projects.  Rather than getting into too much detail, tonight will be a photo update on the larger of the Agnus Dei pieces from The Tale of Two Lambs.

There is still a great deal of the flat silk stitching to be done, and an even greater amount of the Italian stitch with the gold passing thread. It was time to get things moving along. I plan on having the upper portion of the blue sky finished before the end of next weekend, and then get started on the goldwork. There were a few sections left where the size was rather small for the stitching. Those were tackled first, before starting the long sections.

This tiny corner by the banner was the first area to finish. It is a little tricky working around the curves on the end of the cross. But by careful stitch placement, everything turned out well.

Dealing with all of the intricate curves and notched areas worked out better than one could imagine. It is time-consuming stitching because the  placement of each stitch needs to be precise. It is important to keep the edges neat and even and the stitches straight.  Keeping the edges neat and even makes it much easier to stitch the next sections on the cross pole and the banner of victory.

Next up – long stitches. The span of each stitch is extremely long for this next section. I can only get about 3 stitches finished with every fresh threading of the needle. Attempting anything longer than that results in a mess  of tangles with the thread.

Now it is time to finish that upper section of sky. There will be lots of thread changing with the needles, and the goal is to finish this section before the weekend is over. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. Until next time.
