The Apostle's Collection is a set of green vestments and paraments for Trinity Season and Ordinary Time, built around one design: the Tree of Life growing from the Chi Rho, fed by streams of living water, with the shields of the twelve Apostles in its branches. The superfrontal carries the tree, and the full frontal adds the Trinity and the Creed beneath it; the chasuble has the tree on the back with a smaller tree on the front; the stole runs the twelve symbols up from a Chi Rho; and the pulpit and lectern falls take the tree, the Chi Rho with living water, the Trinity creed, the cross in a quatrefoil, Christ crucified, and two single Apostles, St. Peter and St. Jude. A chalice veil with the words "This is my Body," a burse, a banner and an antependium complete the set.
Everything is embroidered and sewn to order in Baxter, Minnesota, most of it in green Glastonbury or Luther Rose brocade; the stole, banner and antependium are also offered in Lichfield, and the superfrontal in Luther Rose, Lichfield, Fairford or Florence. The falls, banner and antependium are trimmed in antique gold fringe with a rod pocket. Falls are offered up to 18 inches wide and 36 inches long and the banner at 36 by 54 inches, with larger sizes on request, and frontals are made to your altar's measurements; send the measurements and we quote the set. The matching green stoles and the rest of our paraments have their own collections.
Questions about the Apostle's Collection
Why is Ordinary Time green?
Green is the color of life and growth. It is worn through Ordinary Time: the Sundays between the Christmas season and Lent, and the long season after Pentecost that many Lutherans call the Trinity Season, the longest stretch of the church year.
Who are the twelve?
The twelve Apostles, each on a shield bearing the emblem tradition gave him, set along the branches of the tree.
