Crossover Braid Trim 5/8" Wide 

A narrow galloon that does a lot of work for its width.

Gold metallic threads cross over a satin ground in a continuous X, and both edges finish in a fine gold picot. The crossings catch light at the edge of a vestment the way a plain flat braid never quite does, which is the whole point of a trim this narrow: it has to register from a distance without shouting.

Violet is the color of Advent and Lent, and a gold crossing keeps it from going sombre. It is a useful middle register — penitential in color, but not austere.

• Violet for edging Advent and Lenten stoles

• Pulpit falls and antependia where a narrow accent is wanted

Working With It

At 5/8" it will follow a gentle curve if you ease it, but it is happiest on a straight run. On a stole, allow a little extra at the neck seam so the picot edges meet cleanly. It stitches down through the center without the metallic crossings catching in the needle.

Sold by the yard. Swatch samples are approximately 2" x 3" and are for color checking only — violets are the hardest liturgical color to judge on a screen, so order one if you are matching an existing set.
